Hi Rhoda, I don’t see why not. Try freezing them raw and precut so you can toss them straight into a hot pan of oil and garlic!

Yes it looks like a variety of dwarf bok choy!

Thanks!

Hi Bill, that word basically indicates that the vegetable was picked when it was younger and more tender. If you compare the gai lan mue (also sometimes spelled miu) and the regular gai lan, for instance, you’ll notice that the regular gai lan is larger, with much thicker stems. We like buying the “mue” versions because they’re younger, sweeter, and more tender, but they do tend to be a bit more expensive!

First I want to thank you for this incredible website. I purchased a wok and tools and have been going crazy at my local Asian grocery and Korean grocery. I have made dozens of your recipes, all great. My question is that my local grocery has the word “mue” after some of it’s produce. It has Bok Choy Mue and Bok Choy. Also Gai Lan and Gai Lan Mue. What does the Mue mean? Thanks again, love you guys. My next purchase is a dedicated wok burner!

The English translations can indeed be confusing sometimes, as they aren’t really standardized. But this article does show photos of the different types, so you can match them up by look, regardless of what they’re labeled as.

There is a “sweet bok choy” which I think is little bok choy, both Shanghai bok choy and Shanghai mieu that looks like bok choy, and “long bok choy” that has leaves sort of like little bok choy but with a long portion of stem with no leaf. They also have dwarf, which they call baby, that I’ve gotten from them before. Can you help me clarify which is which so I’ll know what I’m buying? Thanks in advance.
