Kia ora Amie, not sure which part of Aotearoa you’re in; but in Tāmaki Makaurau, I found the LKK premium oyster sauce (with the vintage illustration) in both my local Asian grocers, one with the big bottle and one with the small bottle. I suspect Taiping will most likely stock it!

Amazon has LKK premium in 32oz for $20.99!! So that’s what I ordered. I’m going to make the oyster sauce chicken wings!

Amazon can be very expensive for these sauces! We suggest checking out an online Asian grocer, where the prices will be more aligned with what you might see in a Chinese market. Try powingonline.com — they’re a mom and pop grocery in Manhattan Chinatown that will ship dry goods!

Hi Debra, Lee Kum Kee is definitely the cheapest if you go into a store to get it. Other online retailers also sell it for a reasonable price. Here you can get it from a Manhattan Chinatown grocery that ships: https://powingonline.com/search?type=product&q=oyster+sauce. Megachef is more of a niche brand. We think it’s sweeter and a bit looser/more pourable than Lee Kum Kee. We prefer Lee Kum Kee Premium Oyster Sauce (which usually sells for around $6 these days), because we like the flavor better—more rounded and less sweet. It’s also what our family has been using for many years. That said, some people enjoy Megachef more as a dipping sauce or condiment. It’s a bit expensive to cook with.

I’ve found it to be the best price all others were over $12 per bottle. Do you have thoughts on this brand?

We haven’t tried that brand before, thanks for sharing.

Hi Amie, we actually talk about it in the video in this post! The premium version lists oyster extractives as the first ingredient, while the regular version lists water. The flavor is richer in the premium version.
